 Rare opportunity

JS10th Body - Rare Opportunity!

I was fortunate enough to be emailed recently about a rare opportunity. Here's the story...

"As I mentioned before, I am a luthier with more than 30 years of experience.

The owner of the prototype JS 10th, bought the guitar in Germany in the late 1990's and had trouble with it from the very start. He was and still is a big fan of Joe's. At the time, being a pro, he used lots of rack gear (Mesa Triaxis, compressors, multi effects units, you name it) and, as often happened in those days, he had far too much gain on tap. Mind you, that syndrome is still present today and it's also still going strong. The DiMarzios on his JS 10th consequently squealed too much for his liking. He asked me if I could wax saturate the coils of his pickups to minimize unwanted feedback. I have done such pickup repairs many times before and was quite confident I could perform the task successfully. Trouble was, I didn't know how fragile the chrome finish on those JS's was. I went on to unscrew the mounting rings after desoldering the pickup leads at the control cavity. The bridge pickup came off cleanly, but the neck pickup's mounting ring took along two tiny pieces of chrome, stuck to the bottom of the ring. Obviously, the mounting ring screws were tightened too snugly, chipping away the fragile finish. I did what I could to repair the finish, but such mishaps are difficult to hide. The guitar was brand new at the time and the owner was very unhappy with the fragile chrome finish. He paid more than 6000 Deutsche Marks (more than 3000 Euros, maybe even more in today's currencies) for the guitar and the least he expected was finish problems. Ibanez always stood behind their products, especially signature models, and sent a replacement JS 10th body to the dealer where the guitar was purchased. I had no idea the owner had the replacement body until recently, when he showed it to me. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw it. Not even the pickup mounting ring holes have been drilled! I quickly took snapshots of this beauty to document the event. He told me he is considering the sale of the replacement body, so I am writing on his behalf. I have no idea what's that thing worth, but I'm sure it is a very rare item.
